Cyclone and flooding recovery support announced.

If you are self-employed, a sole trader, or an employer and your business is in a place where local State of Emergency was declared as a result of Cyclone Gabrielle or the January flooding, you may be eligible for support to help you recover.

The Government is providing $25 million in recovery support to businesses in seven regions affected by Cyclone Gabrielle and January floods in the North Island. These regions are:

• Northland

• Auckland

• Bay of Plenty

• Coromandel

• Tairāwhiti

• Hawke’s Bay

• Tararua

You can apply for a grant of up to $40,000 to help you:

• keep operating and position you for a successful recovery

• maintain cashflow.

Need help with Back to Work Grants application

Do you need help with your Back to Work grants application? Support packages for Tamaki Makaurau businesses is still available for businesses who were affected by the recent Auckland Anniversary flooding. You can apply:

• Up to Up to $5000 for businesses that are red stickered, yellow stickered or not currently operating as a result of the flooding.

• Up to $2000 for businesses that are operating but have suffered a loss in excess of $2000 as a result of the flooding.

• $750 for business that are operating but have suffered a loss in excess of $750, but less than $2000 as a result of the flooding.

If language is a barrier for you, we can talanoa in Samoan, Tongan, Niuean or PNG (Tok Pisin).

There’s still space available for the free health and wellness checks.

This is a fully funded comprehensive assessment valued at $500 which includes: blood tests, full physical check, lifestyle and mental health check-up, full report.

Minimum wage goes up April 1

The adult minimum wage will increase to $22.70 per hour from 1 April 2023. This is an increase of $1.50 from the current hourly rate of $21.20. 

The training and starting-out minimum wages will also both be increased.
