Business Advisor (Full time, Auckland)

Key Purpose of Role

The role of business advisor is to support the growth of successful Pacific businesses in New Zealand and will provide practical business advice, assistance and develop strategies and plans that can be actioned. This requires the ability to be proactive, identify capability requirements and nurture those with the aspiration, commitment, and opportunity to innovate and grow thus creating and sustaining quality jobs.

Our business advisors are part of the team delivering PBT’s Programmes and Services, and entails working with a portfolio of business owners and entrepreneurs seeking to grow their business capability and capacity to deliver innovative solutions for their customers.

Crucial to the success of the role is connecting and building rapport with trusted client networks and ecosystems that Pacific businesses are connected into. A deep understanding of business capability needs is required to successfully conduct business assessments, connect businesses to relevant opportunities, business support and innovation services, and the ability to work with PBT’s Service Provider Network. Up to date networks and ecosystem knowledge are essential.

From time to time there will be a requirement to participate in other PBT special projects as a subject matter expert to ensure businesses needs are met and they can maximise the opportunities arising from initiatives.

Skills/Competencies

  • Practical understanding of business, financial literacy and business models including the challenges and opportunities facing business owners and entrepreneurs.

  • Critical thinking skills and sound business judgement – broad understanding of the business entrepreneurial process.

  • Have a good understanding of the Pacific cultural context and Pacific business values – Pacific frameworks – and appreciate the tension/challenges of Pacific businesses operating in the business eco-system.

  • Ability to see the big picture and develop rapport quickly with business owners from a range of industries.

  • Up-to-date knowledge of business and innovation ecosystems and services offered public and private sector organisations.

  • Highly developed communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Ability to understand or speak a Pacific language is desirable.

  • Customer relationship management.

  • Proven ability to achieve results based on agreed performance measures and timelines. Teamwork and collaboration.

  • Networks in business and industry.

  • An understanding of tikanga Māori is desirable.

  • Competent in use of technology to enhance productivity.

Qualifications

A tertiary business qualification is desirable but not essential.

Experience

5 years plus in a business advisory role or as an owner manager of a SME business.
