Polynesian Weaved Mats, founded by Haitelenisia Whare, is a unique business inspired by her father's idea. Haitelenisia's journey began with a simple curiosity that quickly evolved into a thriving enterprise. The business specialises in creating traditional Polynesian mats, including huge, weaved mats and body mats known as Taovala.
Haitelenisia was inspired by her father to start the business. She recalls, "My father inspired me to start his idea. I thought to myself, I'll look it up, and I haven't stopped since. I just rolled with it, and it started becoming what it is today."
This personal connection and dedication make Polynesian Weaved Mats a unique and heartfelt venture.
At this year’s Pacific Fest 2025, Polynesian Weaved Mats show-cased their signature products: huge, weaved mats and Taovala. These traditional Polynesian mats are not only functional but also carry cultural significance which made them a standout offering at the festival.
Pacific Business Trust building Pacific Business Capability
The Pacific Business Trust was grateful to be trusted by Haitelenisia to support the growth and development of her business.

Together we identified that I needed to develop the account practises needed to be a sustainable business. They were able to provide the investment funds and strategic partner to develop the right processes.
“This investment and support have been instrumental in helping the business manage its finances and invest in essential resources,” she says.
